Formal and Informal Testing

Most students take formal tests at regular intervals.  Often this is at the end of the term, the end of the year, or at the end of Middle School or High School.

However, many teachers give their students tests at regular intervals throughout the course.  For some teachers this is every week, other teachers give tests once a month.  Some teachers give a little test every day.  This kind of testing can help students to measure their progress, help teachers to understand what students are having difficulty and help to motivate students.

In the document attached, you will find a comparison of formal and informal testing.
